Saturday Market: Pop-Up of Awesome! Shop

Today is the last day for that fabulous pop-up shop in Greenwood called the Pop-Up of Awesome!  Marlo of Studio of Awesome! is hosting several Seattle area artists in her studio as part of the Phinneywood (Phinney Ridge and Greenwood) ArtWalk.  If you like etsyRAIN craft shows, you area going to love shopping at this unique little boutique.  There are about 20 artists, with everything from wall art to jewerly to cashmere to kids costumes to (you guessed it) postcards.  If you would like to see the list of participating artists, check Catshy Crafts blog post.

There is a community map here, as well as a list of participating businesses.  As you can see, this really is "The Big One"!

Max & Co Post Paris, Eiffel Tower & Etching postcards

 

 I can't help it.  Every time I think of Paris, I think of Marie Antoinette and the Revolution.  In other words, I think of Paris as antique.  The city itself has preserved it's antiquities so well, that it is part of its character.   Close your eyes and think of French interior design.  What comes to mind?  Baroque?  Shabby Chic?  Toile?  Brocade?  Le Tour Eiffel?  It's all vintage, if not antique, right?  For me, it is about the art.  Not the more modern art, but the classics - like Mona Lisa.  And old maps and etchings.  And black & white photos.  I'm thinking about Paris alot lately.   I can't wait to go back to visit the Marché aux puce (flea markets) and Marché aux vieux papier (old paper market)!

New in the shop this week!  [Spoiler alert...]

I created this set of postcards as an homage to one of my favorite TV shows.   Three cards have some of my favorite quotes from the Dowager Countess, Violet.  You have to admit - a no episode is show without a Violet-ism.

Raise your hand if you think Matthew should not have been killed off...  What a rotten way to end season 3, right?  I love the show - in fact I've been hooked for all three seasons.  And I understand why Matthew had to have a little "accident" - for those of you that didn't know, it stems from some silly thing called a contract which I believed he signed years ago, long before he ever became one of the most popular characters on the show.  There must be some way that they can write him back into the script - with enough coaxing from fans perhaps?

The set of five Downton Abbey postcards can be found in my MaxAndCoPost etsy shop for $3.99.  Shipping, as always, is a flat rate $2 in the USA regardless of the quantity of postcards ordered. 

I just returned from a trip to the Gulf Coast of sunny Florida.  It is so refreshing getting a full day's worth of sun, when you are used to a full [short] day of clouds - look up the "hours of daylight" for Seattle in the winter if you don't believe me.  Sarasota is at 22.3° N and Seattle is at 47.6° N.  That is comparable to Taiwan and England.  Needless to say, I spent a week daydreaming about all of the plants that I could grow in my garden - orchids mostly, but bromeliads, citrus and rubber trees, and peppers.  Yes, peppers take a lot of sun.  I don't have that sun in my yard.  I have shade.  Shade grows moss and lichen.

The pepper postcards, although much thinner than the Max & Co.  Post postcards, have a beautiful botanical illustration of several varieties of peppers (Piper sp.).  I think they would make wonderful invitations to a dinner party!  Or maybe handwritten menu cards?  Hmm...

I love the Piper oblongii  peppers - they're classic.  What is your favorite pepper?

First Monday - Free Postcard with Purchase (Forgotten Piano)

I found this piano abandonded in a parking lot in Montreal outside a circus school.  I can't imagine why anyone would abandon such a beautiful instrument.  Despite it's condition, it still played, albeit a little out of tune.  There was something romantic in its voice - it was like a raspy tenor who smoked too many cigarettes and drank a few too many martinis.  I reminded me of a washed up Cassanova who had seen happier days.  If it wore clothes, they would be an outdated, but still stylish suit, with worn elbows;  a silk tie that was a little too wide and perhaps stretched with wear;  the pants were baggy;  the shoes scuffed;  the hat dusty.

Too often we judge the book by the cover.  Our "Cassanova" has stories to tell.  Love stories.  Happy stories of days gone by.  Stories that should not be forgotten.

In honor of those love stories that should be retold, I am including one free copy of this postcard with each order through my etsy shop or my ecrater shop.

One of my favorite types of postcards is the "Cut Out Postcards".  These are postcards that you are expected to cut up to make a 3D object or puppet.  Of course, I could never cut up a postcard that has been mailed to me - I would loose the history of the card:  the note, the stamp, the postmark...  But I still collect them.  Above are a few new ones that I found online.  And below is my meager collection.

Minor Postcards from Finland

I just received this postcard from Minor Postcards in Finland and I wanted to share it with you.  I love the composition of the photo. It has a very Edward S. Curtis feel to it.  Even with the simple composition, it has a very indigenious Finnish feel.  I also love that the woman is working on her craft project - the whole idea of handmade.  The weight and feel of the postcard are great too.  I highly recommend Minor Postcards!

More new postcards have been listed!  I call this "Birds and Bees" even though it also includes a baby butterfly.  We raised the butterfly from a larva, and this is debut into the wild - pretty much a result of the birds and bees if you want to look at it that way.

The bee lives in Walla Walla, Washington.  The peacock lives in **, Spain.  The flamingos live at the San Diego Zoo.  And the honey bee lives in Seattle, Washington and is feasting on the milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa) in my garden. 

Being a botanist, I am intriguided by nature.  In fact, most of my vacation photos are taken of flora and fauna.  I even stop to take photos of spiders when I walk around our neighborhood. 

These postcards are 4"x6" standard size and are printed on heavyweight (15pt.) stock.  They are sold in packs of 5 (1 of each card) in our etsy shop.

Look what just arrived from the printer - our new "Chalkboard Greeting" postcards.  These postcards are 4"x6" standard size and are printed on heavyweight (15pt.) stock.  They are sold in packs of 5 (1 of each card) in our etsy shop.  What a fun way to drop a friend a quick note to let them know that you are thinking of them.
